Letter of Candidacy

November 11, 2022

To The Constituency of Rich Township High School District 227,

I, Lamekia N. Davis, am running for the Rich Township High School District 227 Board of Education. It is my belief that public service is a responsibility that we all share, and we should all be willing to contribute our time and best effort toward the well-being of the community, students, and stakeholders. In which we live, work, and play. Mohammed Ali said it well, “Service to others is the rent you pay on this earth.”

Having lived in the Village of Park Forest for over 10 years, having raised two children in this community and currently serving as a Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Youth Commission of Park Forest. I have fondly grown an appreciation for the community and the family values that is exhibited in the Rich Township Community. I am aware of some of the needs of the community, the resources available and aware of the public concerns that face our community at large.

My service to our community and abroad began over 20 years ago when worked with the I Love Them NFP organization, several Girl Mentoring Organization throughout the Chicagoland area, Mentor with Lincoln Challenge, PTSO/Booster organizations at the former Rich East High School and Park Forest /Chicago Heights SD163. This has taught me patience, cooperation, and the importance of delegating work and the benefit of compromise. Additional community service includes having worked with the Kiwanis Club of the Southland, serving as a member of the Democratic Women of the South Suburbs. Also, I have professionally worked in banking and finance for over twenty years at some of largest bank in the nation transacting millions of dollars in assets, running my own event space in Lynwood and Downtown Chicago. Also, I have my own NFP and Girl’s mentoring organization, called the Hey Girl Foundation, NFP.

My commitment is to serve the citizens of our great township and contribute to its growth and prosperity; I will support safe schools, being fiduciary responsible with taxpayer’s money, work in collaboration with all stakeholders, and protect the assets of the Rich Township and community. Also, supporting the improvement of our academic rigor and our state standardized testing scores. Always challenging the Board of Education to stay innovative and on the cutting edge of resources and technology for our students. I would like to continue working on improving communication between the community and the district administration.

With respect, grace and humility I pledge to help the citizens of Rich Township by promising to work wherever and whenever possible to make Rich Township High School District 227 the best in the Southland. I am only ONE VOTE that is striving to unify ONE VOICE and ultimately working towards building ONE COMMUNITY that is proud to live in this district and even more proud to send their children to RTHS District 227. We are a premier district that is on the rise to exceed the expectation of the doubter, and merely become the overachiever that we are destined to be and will be. Please email me at <info@friends4lamekiadavis.org> if you have questions or comments. I look forward to hearing from you and remember to vote on April 4, 2023.

God Bless,
Commissioner Lamekia Davis
